The Southwest-to-Northeast Rail Corridor proposed commuter route recommended as the preliminary Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) in The T’s 2006 Alternatives Analysis Report would follow existing rail lines from Sycamore School Road in southwest Fort Worth, through downtown Fort Worth, northeast to downtown Grapevine and then into the north entrance of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
Operating on existing tracks of the Fort Worth & Western, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Union Pacific railroads, and the former Cotton Belt route now owned by DART, the route would provide direct access to all activity centers in the corridor, and would connect with other transportation services, including the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter rail service, AMTRAK, and The T’s downtown bus transfer center at the downtown Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) and T&P Station.
